Naples continues to cement its reputation as home to some of America's most influential business leaders.
The Hoffmann Family of Companies, headquartered in Naples, has officially completed its acquisition of the Pittsburgh Penguins from Fenway Sports Group. While the financial terms were not officially disclosed, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed the purchase price was approximately $1.75 billion, making it one of the largest NHL franchise transactions ever completed.
The acquisition represents the Hoffmann family's largest investment to date and further expands a global portfolio that spans more than 200 companies across 30 countries, with interests in hospitality, aviation, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, financial services, media, real estate, and professional sports.
A Major Win for Southwest Florida Hockey
The purchase has immediate significance for hockey fans throughout Southwest Florida.
The Hoffmann family already owns the Florida Everblades, the three-time defending ECHL Kelly Cup champions based at Hertz Arena in Estero. Beginning with the 2026-27 season, the Everblades will officially become the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, creating a direct player development pipeline between Southwest Florida and one of the National Hockey League's most iconic franchises.
The new partnership is expected to strengthen player development while bringing even greater visibility to professional hockey throughout the region.
Leadership for the Future
Under the new ownership structure:
- Geoff Hoffmann will serve as Governor of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- David Hoffmann, Greg Hoffmann, and Penguins President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas will serve as Alternate Governors.
The Hoffmann family has emphasized a long-term commitment to building a championship organization while continuing to invest in the franchise, its players, and the Pittsburgh community.
Naples Continues to Make National Headlines
The acquisition reflects a broader trend of Naples becoming a destination not only for luxury living but also for influential entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders whose impact extends well beyond Southwest Florida.
From world-class real estate and luxury hospitality to professional sports ownership, Naples continues to attract significant investment and international attention. The Hoffmann family's purchase of the Penguins further reinforces the city's growing presence on the national business stage.
For Southwest Florida residents, it also creates an exciting new connection between the NHL and the local hockey community through the Florida Everblades.
